The Edition No. 16

A Chinese-speaking hacker used AI agents to break into the websites of more than 100 companies, including Deere, SharkNinja and Cummins, Reuters reported in an exclusive on Monday, citing research by the cybersecurity firm NorForge. The agents worked largely on their own through the open-source platform Cairn, attempted to break into more than 1,200 sites and used roughly $5,000 worth of tokens, the researcher estimated. Separately, the US Department of Homeland Security ordered the removal of DeepSeek products and third-party services built on the Chinese AI model from civilian agency IT systems, citing the risk of sensitive data being transferred to China, while Chinese startup MiniMax released an updated M3.1 Flash model that it says is nearly three times faster and 70% cheaper to use.
